Westmere Schools Second Annual Soapbox Derby This term we will be making soapbox racers in the Senior School. To get you in the spirit and to see what kind of thing we'll be looking at building please watch the clip below. Kids, get collecting now! Parents, we'd love your help for the build-off at the end of the term. Please let your child or child's teacher know if you're available. Most of it will be supervision so you don't have to have much technological/building knowledge/skill.
This is a clip of some kids and their dad's building a Hummer-shaped soapbox racer. Bit of a laugh and shows the possibilities for modifying from the basic.

Students from the senior school were keen to make a difference in the light of their study of and visit to Tiritiri Matangi. They wanted to raise money to support the island's efforts and organised a very well-received and successful bake sale after school. Our friendly schools educator at Tiritiri wrote us this email expressing her thanks:
This week we received your lovely card from Rm 22, 17 and 16 with an amazing amount of money you raised for Tiritiri educ programme, $550.60!! That is sooo wonderful of your students and all the teachers, parents who were involved. To take the time out from a busy school schedule to think about helping us and to go ahead and raise funds for Tiritiri is simply wonderful. Cannot believe how much you raised. Those funds will go a long way in helping other less well off students a chance to visit and enjoy/learn from what we have in place. It is really something to see the enthusiastic, bright little faces and the joy of students who would not otherwise get an opportunity to come to a place like Tiritiri. Your students have given a precious life experience to approx 27 other students.
An official thank you will be coming your way from SoTM but I just wanted to say we are really over whelmed with your school's thoughtfulness and efforts here. We thoroughly appreciate what you have done for Tiritiri and please convey this through to all your students.
You have a great Term 3 and thank you again for your kindness here.
Kind regards Barbara
Jun 2013 - Transformation
Our topic about the transformation of environments continues this term with a focus on the Wynard Quarter. Lots of exciting experiences are planned including a trip to the Wynard Quarter on 17th June and a visit from Mayor Len Brown to Westmere on 12th June.
May 2013 Tiritiri Matangi Visit
We had a wonderful time on the three visits to Tiritiri Matangi. All the incredible birds and wildlife that we had learned about was not only easy to spot but positively following us around in some instances!
March 2013 Interschools cricket
Westmere kids are great at giving things a go. This was proved yet again in the heaps of Westmere cricket teams that participated in the Interschools Cricket. A great day was had by all and resulted in a Westmere V Westmere final. Who did you want to win?
